Smokestack Trilogy marked the beginning of the journey, when Groanbox were "The Groanbox Boys". Prior to adding new members, influences and instruments, Cory Seznec and Michael Ward-Bergeman released this, the first of two duo albums. Yann Seznec was brought on as sound engineer on this debut project, which was recorded over several weekends in April 2006 in a 1930s art deco concert hall in Harefield Hospital, Middlesex UK. The acoustics were amazing and, despite sleeping on chairs and being awakened by oblivious night guards, the vibe was perfect.
